New Year Day
It is an annual festival celebrated all over India on 1st January with great social fervour. It marks the end of the old and the beginning of the new. Actually the celebrations start right from Christmas Eve – 24th December and continue up to 1stJanuary of the New Year. This day is celebrated primarily by the urban upper and middle class people.
It is generally a time of get-togethers and enjoyment. In some metros, hordes of people gather in public places to welcome the New Year. In a multicultural, multi religious country like India, this is one celebration that seems to break all such boundaries. It is most probably the only day when religion does not matter. Greetings and good wishes are generously exchanged, sweets are distributed and everybody is wished a Happy New Year.
